Connect SA National Technology ChallengeThe Connect SA National Technology Challenge is an initiative between Palcard Connect Africa, the Department of Education and Private Sector in the promotion of Maths, Science, Technology and Accounting talent in South African High Schools. The challenge focuses on Maths, Science, Technology and Accounting as critical subjects. The challenge aims to encourage young people to focus on these subjects and subsequently follow careers in the critical skill areas. ObjectivesThe objective of the challenge is to facilitate a competition in which various schools participate. Through the competition, we aim to encourage creative thinking, problem solving, originality and application of mathematical, accounting and scientific principles in a real world environment. We also aim to show-case, profile and expose talent to sponsors, universities, parents, technikons, and all the intended parties. During the competition, learners are presented problems requiring solution through design of projects, or concepts to solve problems. Palcard connect africa together with its partners and metro fm are looking for top grade 11 & 12 learners, and graduates who want to pursue careers in science, technology, finance. Prizes include bursaries and scholarships, cellphones, and learners can win a prize for their school. Opportunity open to every grade 11 & 12 learner. The champion to the project is Minister of Science & Technology, Musibudi Mangena, ambassadors are Noeleen Maholwana Sangqu of 3 Talk, Penny Lebyane of Metro FM, Aubrey Tshalata of Palcard Group, Mike Wylie, Chairman of WBHO and other personalities. Call us on 0861 725 227 The Successful Pilot - 2006 Connect SA National Technology ChallengeIn 2006, Palcard Connect Africa piloted the project in 3 Provinces: KZN, W. Cape and Gauteng. 75 schools were selected and participated in the programme. Over 20 000 (twenty thousand) learners participated in the challenge. Teams of learners were drawn from urban schools, rural schools and private schools. The competition was held in various venues with learners solving maths, finance and technology related problems and doing related projects. Winning teams and schools have recently been recognized and awarded in the 3 provinces. Their prizes included office equipment from partners, scholarships and bursaries. |
